Riverside Church Statement on the Killing of Renée Nicole Good Riverside Church mourns the tragic death of Renée Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother, partner, and neighbor, who was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. Her life mattered. Her loss wounds our hearts.   We grieve with her family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness and compassion. We lament that once again a life has been cut short in a moment that should never have happened.   As people of faith, we reject systems that devalue human life and harm our immigrant siblings and neighbors. We meet unchecked cruelty with unbounded love. We stand for justice in the face of oppression. We call on leaders at every level to pursue accountability, transparency, and a vision of public safety rooted in justice, dignity, and protection for all.   Jesus said that the greatest commandments are to love God and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40). May we live into these words of Christ with courage and compassion. May our work for justice honor Renée’s memory and contribute to a world where every person is seen, valued, and safe.
